Dedicated to honoring the life and contributions of Hobie Alter (1933-2014)
The Hobie Memorial Foundation is dedicated to creating a landmark featuring Hobie Alter, whose legacy is a large part of the cultural and industrial history of Dana Point through his innovations in surfing, boating, and skateboarding.
Bruce Beal and Robbie Roberson, representing the Hobie Memorial Committee, attended the Legislative Luncheon hosted by the South County Chambers, on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, with the guest of honor, U.S. Congressman, Darrell Issa. After Roberson addressed the Congressman and the audience, he said, “Response from the room was very positive.”

The photos above and below—taken from various angles—depict one of the potential sites suggested by the City of Dana Point for the Hobie Alter Memorial. This pad is located at the north end of Dana Point, adjacent to the pillars and leading into the redevelopment of Del Prado or the “Lantern District.”
